Is Framer good for SEO?
Let’s not waste your time: yes, Framer is good for SEO.
It provides 99% of all the technical SEO tools you need to rank your website [more on its shortcomings later] and also puts safeguards in place to stop you from making huge mistakes that could greatly impact your rankings.
However, please keep in mind that the website builder you choose can only help you so far. Broadly speaking, SEO can be broken down into three main fields:
Technical SEO [where Framer can help you]
On-page SEO
Off-page SEO

While technical SEO is essential, and Framer makes it exceptionally easy to handle, it’s only a third of the picture. If you don’t get the other two right - which are independent of the platform you use - then you won’t get far.
Now that we have answered the million-dollar question let’s look at what actually makes Framer a good choice for SEO.
Framer SEO features
Indexable content
→ Framer sites are, under the hood, single-page React apps. And with SPAs, the risk of uncrawlable or unindexable content is very real! Luckily, Framer cares a lot about SEO and pre-renders [or server-side generates, same thing!] the HTML of your pages to make them easier for crawlers to parse.
Clean HTML output
→ Framer has come a long way over the past couple of years, and the HTML output is now pretty clean - making it cheaper and easier for crawlers to read your content.
Full control over URLs
→ While not the biggest ranking factor, having full control over your URLs is always nice - and it’s something some CMSs still don’t offer!
Auto-generated sitemap.xml
→ Framer automatically creates a sitemap.xml file based on all your indexable pages, ready for you to submit to Google Search Console for quicker indexing.
Auto-generated robots.txt
→ Just like the sitemap, Framer also generates a robots.txt file out of the box to dictate what crawlers can access your site [by default, every crawler].
Great loading speed
→ Framer sites are some of the fastest on the web—and they keep getting faster! According to the HTTP Archive Core Web Vitals Report, 63% of all Framer sites currently have a “green” CWV report [source].
Auto-generated canonical tags
→ Framer automatically adds self-referencing canonical tags to every page, helping you avoid duplicate content issues. [Most people don’t know it, but this behavior can be overridden on any project with a paid plan; here’s an article on how to do it].
Title tags and meta descriptions
→ Whether it’s a static page or one generated via the CMS, Framer gives you full control over your title tags and meta descriptions.
HTML semantic tags
→ You can use HTML5 semantic tags in Framer to make your site more accessible to both crawlers and screen readers.
Schema markup
→ Framer allows you to add schema markup to your pages to maximize your chances of getting a rich snippet out of them - for both static and CMS pages
301 redirects
→ Framer makes it easy to set up 301 redirects [well, technically 308s, but it’s the same thing for SEO] to preserve rankings when you change URLs or migrate pages.
Alt tags for images
→ Alt tags are arguably the most important factor for images SEO [and images accessibility], and Framer gives you complete control over it.
Solid hosting infrastructure
→ Framer hosting infrastructure lets you sleep well as it ensures your site always has a valid SSL certificate, is protected from attacks and downtime, and has a low TTFB [which is great for both UX and crawl rate.]
Framer SEO shortcomings
Framer is great for SEO, but it’s not perfect. Here are some SEO shortcomings that, as of May 2025, the tool currently has:
Hidden content
→ Even though Framer serves crawlable HTML, there are a few cases where you might accidentally hide content from search engines. This can happen with overlays, content hidden in component variants, or paginated CMS items.
No-index CMS items
→ Right now, you can’t reliably noindex just a single CMS item—it’s all or nothing for the entire collection.
No control over sitemap.xml and robots.txt
→ While it’s great that Framer generates these for you automatically, the downside is that you can’t customize or edit them in any way unless you are behind a reverse proxy.
No 302 redirects
→ Framer supports 301/308 redirects for permanent changes, but if you need a temporary 302 redirect, that’s not possible at the moment.
Schema markup limitations
→ Framer supports basic schema markup, but it’s still pretty limited - especially for CMS collections. For example, you can’t reference images or pull data from reference fields.
No link attributed
→ Attributes like nofollow or noreferrer aren’t currently supported, so you don’t have full control over your outbound link behavior.
Examples of Framer sites with good SEO
Alright, enough with the theory - let’s look at some Framer sites that get good SEO traffic! Below is a list of a few sites with great SEO results measured by Ahrefs’ traffic checker [estimate]:
→ Organic traffic estimated at 3M visitors per month.
→ Note: Around 5/10% of pages don’t live on Framer.
→ Organic traffic estimated at 185.6K visitors per month.
→ Organic traffic estimated at 68.5K visitors per month.
P.S. The list does NOT include sites where the majority of the organic traffic comes from branded searches.
Conclusion
Framer is a great choice for SEO. It gives you most of the tools you need and puts safeguards in place to help you not make huge mistakes.
